The U.S. government ordered lenders to give homeowners hurt financially by the pandemic up to a 12-month break on their mortgage payments. But housing advocates say there's been very little action to help renters.

"Everyone panicked at the time," Rico says."Obviously, just because work stops and therefore income stops, bills don't stop." A few states away in Denver, Alex Vasko's job suffered the same fate on Wednesday. Vasko, who uses the pronoun they, was a banquet captain for a big catering company that does a lot of weddings.
