Mark Cavanagh has “established a pattern of serious offending”
A 49-year old Co Antrim man who has “established a pattern of serious offending” was made the subject of a three-year Serious Crime Prevention Order on Thursday.
As part of a police operation aimed at disrupting the activities of organised crime gangs, he was recorded discussing plans to carry out two robberies in the south of the city. He revealed that in addition to the offences arising from the plans to rob the cash-in-transit vans in Belfast, Cavanagh also served time in jail for previous serious offending including conspiring to rob a Securicor van in Coleraine with a firearm.
Telling the court “the use of weapons in cash-in-transit robberies carry with them the inherent high risk of serious harm or indeed death”, the Judge added: “The defendant has shown himself willing and ready to engage in this criminality over the years.”
