Fatal crash in Austin leaves 1 dead; driver Jacob Sussman arrested for manslaughter.
A pedestrian is dead after reportedly being hit by a car in southwest Austin early Wednesday morning.
Just after 2:30 a.m., Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the incident on US 290 near the intersection with Highway 71. According to an arrest affidavit, the crash happened in a construction zone with large barrel barriers blocking part of the shoulder. A witness said he was driving westbound when a black Ford pickup truck pulled up behind him at a high rate of speed. He had to swerve to avoid a collision."It was later determined that during the collision, the black pickup struck a pedestrian who was pronounced deceased on scene," the document said.The driver of the jeep said the pedestrian was walking on the right side of the barriers when he was hit from behind.
