One officer needed hospital treatment after Marc Woodward bit his finger, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard on Friday.

“He had his back to Woodward who barged into him. The officer attempted to arrest him and both ended up on the ground.“He and Woodward were struggling on the ground and Woodward placed his arm around the constable’s neck and applied a degree of pressure. “The second male officer tried to free his colleague but Woodward bit down on his finger, piercing the skin and maintaining the bite for a short time despite being instructed repeatedly to let go.The court heard that one officer sustained bruising to his neck which caused discomfort for several days.He was prescribed a 10-day course of penicillin and underwent blood tests.
Mr Thomson added: “Fortunately these were clear and he made a full recovery although he lost his finger nail as a result of the bite.”Sheriff John Hamilton deferred sentence until next month for background reports and allowed him to remain on bail.
