The 35-year-old was released from custody pending further inquiries.
The 52-year-old was found injured in a common close on Renfield Street in the town, near Glasgow, at around 3am on Monday. Emergency crews raced to the incident however, Alastair, from Renfrew, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say his death is being treated as suspicious. Officers have since arrested a 35-year-old man in connection.Forensic officers and uniformed cops were spotted scouring the scene, which is close to the town's police station, on Monday afternoon as part of an investigation into the incident.
