A trial date has been set
A man has appeared in court accused of murder following an incident nearly four years ago. Dean Hughes, 46, has been charged with the murder of Shane Maloney after police were called to a 'disturbance' in Leigh.
Mr Maloney was assaulted in November 2019 and died 15 months later. Mr Hughes appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Monday morning, November 13, for a further hearing. He was not asked to enter a plea to the offence, and the case was adjourned for a further case management to be held in January next year. A trial date was set for April 2 2024.READ MORE: Storm Debi: Greater Manchester forecast as Met Office issues amber weather warning
During the short hearing, legal matters were discussed between prosecution counsel Nicholas Clarke, and defence counsel Steven Swift. Judge Nicholas Dean KC, the Honorary Recorder of Manchester, told Mr Hughes, who appeared over video link: “You have not been asked whether you plead guilty or not guilty to the allegation of murder. There is going to be a further hearing in this case, and you will remain in custody until then.”
