A prison worker helped flood a prison with drugs and other illicit contraband as part of the largest prison smuggling ring ever uncovered.
She also had four Ribena bottles with her, which contained around two litres of liquid spice. This haul alone was estimated by prison experts to be worth more than £1m. A four year investigation found Hatfield was recruited to the conspiracy by her inmate lover Joseph Whittingham, who was distributing the items inside the prison with Campbell.
Further phone work found Campbell, who was handed a life sentence after he pleaded guilty to arranging the murder of teenager Liam Kelly in 2004, got his mum Stoddard to buy the knives following the order from Murphy, before Hatfield took them into the prison. Enquiries found that the group explored and utilised a number of methods for conveying contraband into the prison. These included the use of Hatfield, by intercepting inmates visiting hospital appointments, drone drops, catapulting packages over the perimeter, fake legal privilege mail and those visiting inmates socially.
