The Environment Agency has issued four flood alerts covering parts of Nottinghamshire
A list of flood alerts across Nottinghamshire has been issued by the Environment Agency amid a Met Office warning for heavy rain throughout the county. The Met Office's warning lasts throughout Sunday and covers the entirety of Nottinghamshire .
The agency issues three types of flood warning, with a flood alert meaning that flooding is possible and people should prepare. There are then flood warnings, when flooding is expected, and severe flood warnings, when flooding could cause a risk to life and significant disruption to communities. The Environment Agency says: "Small, flashier rivers and streams may respond to heavy rainfall as a result of localised thunderstorms passing through the area. Given the unpredictable nature of thunderstorms, there is low confidence in the locations and impacts of rainfall at this point.
The Environment Agency issues a flood alert when forecasts show flooding may be possible from rivers, high tides, surges or strong winds at sea. The alerts are usually issued between two and 12 hours before flooding.
