Letter: The Proud Boys, the Oath Keepers and all those other armed groups are not militias. They are gangs, 'no different than the members of the Mexican cartels.'
The Second Amendment makes reference to “well regulated militias” but these gangs can’t show you a copy of their regulations because they don’t have any. They label themselves as militias to pretend they have legitimacy. It sounds better than “gangs.” I’d wager that most of them can’t even spell militia and they probably can’t tell you what the Second Amendment says about militias. Besides, there aren’t any sanctioned militias in this country besides the Army.
They claim they were there to protect children, but they were actually endangering children and everybody else. The press needs to stop legitimizing them and insulting us by referring to these gang members as militias. Call a spade a spade.
