The Lancaster County hazmat team was called to a fire Monday morning at an excavating business.
An acetylene tank caught fire around 9 a.m. at Burkhard Excavating in West Hempfield Township.First responders got the tank outside with minor damage to the building.'We're going to let it safely and slowly burn itself off.
When it comes to flammable gasses, sometimes they are better on fire where you can see them, not on fire wondering when they are going to find their next ignition source,' said Chief Benjamin Herskowitz.Hazmat crews monitored the air quality to make sure it was safe.A portion of Route 230 was closed in the area for several hours. It is now open.No one was hurt.
