A dry weekend is in store across the county with no rain forecast for Bonfire Night
As Storm Ciaran continues to cause devastation across large parts of the UK, the forecast for the Lake District and the rest of Cumbria is thankfully a lot more promising.
Heavy rain and gusts of up to 100mph have battered southern and eastern areas of the country over the past 48-hours leaving thousands of properties without power, schools closed and hundreds of flood warnings and alerts in place. After the problems caused by Storm Babet last month, Cumbria has this time avoided the torrential conditions.
The latest Met Office forecast shows that this is set to continue with a dry weekend in store. After a largely sunny start in most places on Friday , conditions will turn cloudier as the afternoon progresses with highs of 11C.This will continue into Saturday with a mostly cloudy day in store across the region. The sunshine is expected to make a return on Sunday in time for Bonfire Night, although some places including Kendal and Ambleside could see light rain at around 3pm.
More rain is forecast to sweep across Cumbria on Monday and Tuesday with the heaviest downpours expected to arrive on Wednesday. Here is the latest 5-day Met Office forecast for the region:Scattered showers throughout the day, at times turning heavy especially in the south, interspersed with some sunny spells. Breezy inland by day but easing towards the evening, while remaining blustery in coastal areas. Maximum temperature 11C.
