The vicious stabbing of a 62-year-old man on supermarket car park is being treated as attempted murder
. But detectives as yet have no clear motive for the attack in which the victim was stabbed four times.
As police step up a manhunt to find the culprit of yesterday's attack it is undertood his victim remains in hospital in intensive care. Police are checking CCTV in the area in the hope that it will have captured the attacker on film. Local councillors are to hold a meeting with police due to concern about knife crime in the area. Councillor John Warmisham who represents the ward where yesterday's stabbing occured, said: "I am deeply saddened that something like this could happen. I hope the perpetrator is identified quickly and brought to justice. My sincere sympathies go out to the person who has been stabbed and I hope he makes a full recovery.
"I understand the man who was attacked on the car park outside Aldi is a carer for his father. This is not a run-of-the-mill mugging. It would seem the victim, like any Salford bloke, has had a go back and the attacker has pulled a blade. I would urge anyone who knows who the culprit is to contact police. He is clearly dangerous."
