Kingwood is off to its best start since the 2013 season when the Mustangs started 6-0.
Kingwood remains undefeated on the season after the Mustangs defeated Heights 28-14 Saturday afternoon in a nondistrict game at Turner Stadium.Kingwood set the tone for the game on its first offensive possession.
The Mustangs took 5:93 off the clock with an 89-yard drive that ended with quarterback Trey Reese throwing a 3-yard TD pass to Logan Eckert on a 4th and goal as the Mustangs took a 7-0 lead over Heights with 3:33 left in the first quarter.The Bulldogs tied the game at seven after quarterback Allen Rainey scored on a 1-yard run with 11:58 left in the second quarter.
After Kingwood missed a 30-yard field goal, Rainey scored again for Heights, this time a 7-yard TD run that gave the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead with 3:22 left in the second quarter. On Kingwood’s next drive, Reese threw an interception and Heights’ Noah Sowell leaped into the air for the football with 3:22 left in the second quarter.
The Mustangs got the ball right back after Rainey threw an interception as Kingwood’s Devin Smith came up with the ball and returned it for 30 yards.Both teams were tied at 14 at halftime.
