Parents and concerned residents were left disappointed this week after chances of reversing childcare cuts were rebutted by Stirling Council.
Earlier this year, residents of Killin and surrounding areas became aware that its age 0-2 positions at Killin Nursery in Stirlingshire, the only childcare provision for that age group available in the area, had been slashed due to council budget cuts.
Seeking resolution, representatives from Killin Community Council and Reverse the Cuts campaign met with council leader Councillor Chris Kane on Wednesday at the council’s Viewforth headquarters in Stirling to discuss the immediate and long-standing impact ofToni Dowling from Killin Community Council said: “Councillor Kane made very clear that reversing the cut was categorically not an option.
Emily Ward, a local mum and a Reverse the Cuts campaigner who also attended the meeting, said: “Families are moving away and others, like me, are attempting to work from home with a baby – which I know is a recipe for burn-out but I have no choice.“We don’t have any alternative provision and it feels like we are being forced into a corner.”
Earlier this year parents handed in a 600-name petition to the council over the planned nursery cuts.
