The coronation is the third for country duo Dan + Shay and the first for pop superstar Bieber. The song was written by Dan + Shay, Bieber, Jessie Jo Dillon, Jordan Reynolds and Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd and produced by Smyers. "We wrote this song about our wives, and we're glad that it means as much to our fans as it does to us," Smyers tellsDan + Shay previously led Hot Country Songs with "Speechless," for 11 weeks starting in October 2018, followed by predecessor single "Tequila," which, helped by pop crossover airplay, topped the tally for a week this February.
The 40-1 flight for "Hours" marks the biggest jump to the penthouse since Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down" flew 42-1 in its second frame , beginning a 14-week reign. "Hours," released on Oct. 4, hauled in 33.3 million U.S. streams in the week ending Oct. 10, according to Nielsen Music, and debuts atop. It's the first title to enter at No. 1 since Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line's "Meant to Be" in December 2017, as well as the first leader on the chart for both Dan + Shay and Bieber., where it's the third chart champ for the duo and the first for Bieber., "Hours" ranks at No. 25, down 17% to 9.
