Sophie Gallagher tested it out at homeHalf a cup of porridge oats, a pinch of cinnamon, a squeeze of lime juice, and a little tap water to liquify. It is 4pm on a Tuesday and, against my better judgement, I find myself listening to a 20-year-old on, gathering this mismatch of odd breakfast ingredients, and bringing the Nutribullet out of retirement to whip up a glass of Oat-zempic.
And – because I am impatient – I don’t think I blitzed in the food processor for long enough so about halfway through the cup I realised I was no longer consuming liquid but moving into solid oaty sludge. I offered some to the dog but even she was smart enough to reject it. And so it sat by the sink until my partner came home and asked me if the dog had vomited in a cup.horrible but it is worth noting that I couldn’t bring myself to finish the small glass I’d poured.
But ultimately, she says, this will never be a magical weight-loss hack – because that doesn’t exist. “Genetics plays a huge part in our appetite regulation and sadly there are no hacks or weird drink combinations that can sidestep that fact,” says Clark. “We are far better drawing our attention to eating without distractions and taking our time over food to allow our gut hormones to rise and give fullness signals appropriately”.
Lambert says that if you look at the individual ingredients they are nutritionally fairly good. “Oats are a good source of soluble fibre if consumed in the right way,” which, she says, would be as porridge, with the addition of some protein alongside fruit for the fibre and polyphenols.But, she says, oats and cold water is not going to give you these same benefits – or perhaps any benefits at all. Instead, you’re likely to get a “blood sugar roller coaster”, she explains.
