Storm Babet completely submerged Karen Grayson’s home, she’s been left with repairs worth thousands of pounds – and no insurance cover
To be honest, I believed this. So even when some mortgage companies refused to help me due to the risk, I battled on and found one that would. I’ve spent the past year decorating the house and buying new furniture. And I love living here. Just over a week on, I’ve been back to check on my house a few times. The water has subsided, but it has left the downstairs rooms full of sludge and dirt. The carpets, sofa and furniture like the bookcase are ruined. My car is a write off; the water came over the bonnet and filled it with mud. The water had even moved some heavy wooden cabinets, which shows how strong it was.will cost several thousand pounds.
I love my house and its location, but dealing with this mess is truly frustrating. I won’t be able to, even if I wanted to, and all my money is tied up in it. So I have to be realistic and practical and think how I can flood-proof it as best I can going forward – such as barriers to the front and back doors.
