Even if governments work together to limit global warming to 1.5C – a best-case scenario – melting will continue to accelerate this century, at a rate three times faster than during the 20th Century.
What would one metre of sea level rise look like? A number of studies have predicted melting of the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets will contribute to at least one metre of sea level rise by 2100, and possibly closer to two metres. However, sea level rise can be more or less in different regions depending on ocean currents and land height, among other factors.
