I worked my way up to become a senior social work manager for a large local authority, earning around £67,000 a year. I worked in the sector for over two decades after getting a diploma and a degree in adult social care. I’ve always been passionate about care for the elderly and vulnerable. I’ll start claiming my state pension when I’m 67. I feel very fortunate that I’m not paying rent and have additional money coming in from a work pension. I don’t think the state pension is anywhere near enough to live on. It doesn’t equate to a living wage.
