The AlabamaFolklife Association seeks to document and preserve the artistic expressions and cultural products of Alabama. AFA Director EmilyBlejwas sat down to talk about AFA's new podcast, 'Alabama Folk,' and Mobile’s lost history of banana imports. 🍌

Emily Blejwas is the executive director of the Alabama Folklife Association. She is also the author of "The History of Alabama in Fourteen Foods" and creator of the new "Alabama Folk" podcast.Emily Blejwas is the Executive Director of the Alabama Folklife Association, a group that seeks to document and preserve the artistic expressions and cultural products of Alabama.

Earlier this year, Blejwas and the AFA launched the “Alabama Folk” podcast, which features artists from throughout Alabama. The first season contains six episodes and features soapmaking, chair caning and other traditions of Alabama. Blejwas is also the author of “The Story of Alabama in Fourteen Foods” and has written extensively on Alabama traditions. A native of Minnesota, Blejwas holds a master’s degree in rural sociology from Auburn University.
