A world of 'secret passageways' once ran behind our terraced streets
A world of 'secret passageways' where childhood imaginations ran riot has disappeared along with the communities they once connected. To a child, these seemingly endless labyrinths were the entries and alleyways which ran alongside and behind the homes they lived in.
Along with separation from their friends, for children affected by the clearances they also lost a playground. The network of crumbling alleyways and yards separating the back-to-back terraces was where their games were played and imaginations ran wild. The image sparked memories of these cobbled corridors that were a big part of the youth for many of the group's followers. Hundreds took to the comments to reminisce about their own childhoods playing in the alleyways and entries.Renee Smith remembered running through lines of washing hanging across the back entries to dry, and the excitement and peril of getting "into big trouble if you were caught.
