A campaign group has called for a homeless emergency to be declared in Glasgow in the wake of new figures being released.
Housing officials in Glasgow have been called on to follow Edinburgh and declare a homeless emergency. It comes after new figures showed 6588 homeless people are stuck in temporary accommodation in the city – with 2624 of them children.
Campaign group the Scottish Tenants Organisation yesterday called on Glasgow City Council to declare a housing and homeless emergency in the city. The STO claims 21 homeless people have died in temporary accommodation in 2023. It also claims there have been 2200 recent breaches of Scottish Government laws by Glasgow City Council in relation to the use of hotels and B&Bs.
Shelter Scotland director Alison Watson said: “If thousands of children in Scotland’s largest city having nowhere to call home isn’t an emergency, what is?”
