One source said: “The club has been horrible recently, with some members wanting to move with the times and accept that the Confederate flag has become toxic. In recent years it has been associated with neo-Nazi groups and it was at the heart of the march on the Capitol, which many people recognise to be fuelled by racism. Many people are incredulous that the flag is so toxic that it’s banned in New York, yet people in a Glasgow country and western club simply refuse to give it up.
No arrests were made after club officials claimed there is no official ban on the Confederate flag in the UK. The police are believed to have been alerted after an initial complaint was made to licensing bosses at Glasgow City Council.
