The documentary will look at the unseen effects of Section 28.
Two Glasgow based production firms are hoping to inform a whole new generation about a dark chapter in Scotland's LGBT+ history with a new documentary.
Lifting the lid on the unseen stories during Section 28 outside of London is something Sarah is keen to pursue with the documentary, including the Scottish supporters of the Keep the Clause campaign. The campaign hoped to resist repealing Section 28, and was funded by several private as well as including Scottish businessman Brian Souter.
“I went to the British Film Institute Flare Film Festival and saw this really short documentary that just mentioned Section 28, and my jaw just dropped. I came out and thought, what was that all about?” “Half of pupils said in Just Like Us’ independent research that they have had little to zero positive messaging about being LGBT+ in their school. LGBT+ pupils are twice as likely to be bullied, be lonely and have depression but the research also found that there is a link between LGBT+ inclusive education and pupils having better mental health - clearly, education is where we need change.”
