They are preparing for the winter
Nottinghamshire County Council gritters teams are now on 'full-time standby' ready for the cold winter months. The council says gritting teams and their fleet of 31 gritters will go on to full-time, 24-hour standby from Wednesday, November 1.
As well as the gritting teams, the county council has a number of teams that are expected to be busy during the winter. This includes the drainage, forestry, maintenance and repair, and emergency response teams. For drainage teams, heavy rain, storms, and flooding can lead to a spike in demand for their services, and when high winds lead to fallen trees, it is the forestry team that will be called out.
During winter weather the county council grits A and B roads and major bus routes. They also grit some additional routes during severe weather.Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment, said: “Our gritting teams have begun their full-time standby duties, and are well stocked and ready for winter and whatever the conditions may throw at us.
