It follows a ruling by judges in Brazil this week
Robinho has been arrested at home in Brazil after judges ruled he must serve a nine-year prison sentence for his part in a gang rape 11 years ago. The former Manchester City footballer was one of six men convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in an Italian nightclub.
Robinho, 40, left his apartment building in the Brazilian city of Santos in a black police car yesterday, having been arrested by the country's Federal Police. A Brazilian high court ruled on Wednesday that Robinho must serve his sentence in his home nation. Judges in Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice voted nine to two in favour of validating his conviction, meaning he should serve the sentence. Italy previously issued an international arrest warrant but Robinho had remained a free man, living in Brazil for the last seven years.
