Ulster have witnessed the departures of head coach Dan McFarland and CEO Jonny Petrie in recent weeks
Stephen Ferris believes Ulster may have endure some more pain before they can emerge from the crisis that has enveloped the province in recent weeks.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's game against Stormers, which saw an improved display from interim coach Richie Murphy's side, Ferris told Viaplay Sports: "Being in South Africa this week probably helped the Ulster players. Not having to walk out of the house for training and people asking you 'What's the story here?' and asking about Dan McFarland and Jonny Petrie being let go.
"And ultimately, he has to get the best out of his staff as well. And I don't think he has been able to do that over the past couple of seasons. And Ulster maybe regressed over the last year. Meanwhile, Ferris has voiced his doubt over Nathan Doak operating as Ulster's out-half. Doak played at number 10 against Stormers on Saturday in the absence of Billy Burns, who is heading to Munster at the end of this season.
