Newborn Sophia Smith died at just 11-days-old on April 11, 2017.
A date has been set for the start of an inquiry into the death of a baby girl at a Scots super-hospital seven years ago.
Procurator Fiscal Andy Shanks, who leads on death investigations for COPFS, confirmed: “The Lord Advocate considers that the death of Sophia Smith occurred in circumstances giving rise to significant public concern and as such a discretionary Fatal Accident Inquiry should be held to ensure there can be a full public hearing of the facts of the case.
The baby had a few issues at birth but her parents were not overly concerned at first. However, she was transferred to the QEUH at just a few hours old, where they family was told they were better equipped to help her to a speedy recovery. Over the course of a few days, the machines around Sophia grew fewer in number and after around six days of admission, medics started talking about getting her home. Teresa and Matthew were told Sophia could be home by Easter.
