Four people from Merseyside were part of the conspiracy
A prison nursing assistant and 15 others, including four people from Merseyside, played a part in the largest ever drug and weapon prison smuggling conspiracy in the UK. They have been jailed for a total of more than 80 years.
Today, October 27, 16 of the 17 defendants were sentenced for their roles in the conspiracy at Sheffield Crown Court. These are the faces behind the largest smuggling ring ever uncovered in the UK, their convictions and sentences.The 26-year-old, of HMP Altercourse, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class B drugs and conspiracy to convey phones into prison.
Officers found multiple wraps of cannabis, tobacco, anabolic steroids, vials of liquid, MDMA, mobile phones and phone chargers during a search of her belongings. She also had several bottles of "Ribena" in her possession which contained a liquid form of spice. Campbell, who was handed a life sentence after he pleaded guilty to arranging the murder of teenager Liam Kelly in 2004, was part of the elaborate plot to flood category C prison HMP Lindholme with millions of pounds of contraband. Campbell, his mum Deborah Stoddard, and 15 other co-conspirators smuggled drugs, knives and mobile phones into the prison and then laundered the extensive profits.
