Niall Barry explained that an EncroChat phone can cost around £1,200 to £1,500 for six months
Niall Barry, 26, was called to the witness box to give evidence today on November, 1. Previously Liverpool Crown Court has heard that Barry was convicted over EncroChat messages discussing the sale of firearms including sub-machine guns.
While being questioned by Mr Reiz, Barry confirmed he was making money in 2020 through selling drugs in kilos with the help of his EncroChat phone. Barry said: "It was just a platform. It was supposed to be unbreakable. You could speak openly about drugs and other things and the police couldn’t get into your phone basically. That was what they put across to make you buy one of these phones.
Mr Reiz asked: "How did you initiate those conversations?" To which Barry replied: "You just get put on to people. I could text someone saying my mate wants such and such." Mr Reiz went on to explain that EncroChat phones cost around £1,200 to £1,500 for six months. And Barry replied: "No. I couldn’t put a time or date on it but EncroChat was mad. There were a lot of people who could get anything. I was offered drugs every day by different people, different prices."
