The skulls of the tribal warriors have been returned to Taiwan, in a formal handover ceremony at the University of Edinburgh.
Skulls of tribal warriors taken as "war trophies" have been returned to Taiwan by the University of Edinburgh.
The remains belong to four Mudan warriors killed in 1874. The Mudan community are the second-largest indigenous group in Taiwan, reports Edinburgh Live. The warriors were slain during a battle with Japanese invaders, with experts saying they believe the four were "unlikely" to have incited the violence.
Top news stories today The collections are modernly used in studies into genetics, diets and the movement of people, as well as previously the anatomy and anthropology of different ethnic groups. In 2019, skulls taken from Sri Lanka in the 1880s were returned - however remains have been repatriated over the last 75 years by the university.
