The DWP is urging those who think they may be affected by the mistake dating back 12 years to contact Jobcentre Plus
A major error from the Department for Work and Pensions going back to 2011 means thousands of benefits claimants could be in line for a 'special payment'.
Those affected may also be entitled to a lump sum, depending on their unique situation, as they should have been claiming a specific benefit. Chronicle Live reports. DWP guidance on the dedicated page on GOV.UK explains: "If you made a claim for Income Support on or after January 31, 2011 due to a disability or health condition, you may be entitled to a special payment."This is because you should have been told to claim income-related ESA instead and you may have received more money.
However, if you've moved from Income Support to income-related ESA or Universal Credit, you could still receive a special payment, but all of the following need to apply:
