The timeframe for payments has been revised
Timings for a third cost of living payment have been updated. The change to the schedule was confirmed by the Department for Work and Pensions for recipients of means-tested benefits including Universal Credit.
That suggested it would be no earlier than the start of spring at the Spring Equinox on March 20, 2024. But, in a new update, the DWP says the £299 payment is due 'by spring 2024' which means it will arrive before March 20 and people will get the cash earlier than previously anticipated. However, thousands are set to miss out if their earnings are too high to receive any Universal Credit at that precise point, with calls for the DWP to amend the rules so this technicality is removed.
Anyone who is getting both Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit will receive just one £300 cost of living payment, which will go into the same account where the Child Tax Credit is paid. Those getting a low-income benefit from DWP on top of their tax credits will receive a single sum of £300 and that will come from DWP.
