Diversion routes have been issued by traffic officers after a serious lorry fire resulted in the "protracted" closure of a busy road on the Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire border. The A1M is currently closed in both directions between J34 for Blyth, north of the county, and J35 for Wadworth, near Doncaster, due to a lorry fire which occurred at 7.30am on Friday, April 5.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue said it had deployed six fire engines to tackle the blaze. "We expect there will be significant disruption whilst we respond to this incident," the service said. National Highways has explained delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes. Northbound diverted motorists have been told to follow the hollow circle symbol, via the A614 and A638 to the M180 and M18.The highways agency said drivers heading should follow the hollow square symbol, using the same roads in reverse order.
