Dickinson overcomes early 6-0 deficit to capture its first district title in years

Andrew Jones, the third Bayside pitcher, absorbed the defeat on the hill. Ty Abar started but he struggled with his control. A 6-4 double play helped him in the first, but in the second and third innings, wild pitches allowed Dickinson to quietly sneak back into the contest, resulting in Bayside's lead shrinking to 8-4.
Bayside outhit Dickinson 11-9 and had a 6-0 advantage after one inning, but the bats dramatically cooled off after scoring two runs in the third, creating a solid 8-2 lead. Luke Skipper, Dickinson's winning pitcher, worked the final five innings, retiring 10 of the last 12 batters he faced. Bayside never got a runner into scoring position over the final 3 and two-third innings.
But a throwing error to first put the tying runs in scoring position. Then came a routine grounder to second that forced home Dickinson's seventh run, before an opposite field single created that 8-8 tie. Bayside was just four outs away from earning a second title contest with that routine grounder to the second baseman.
