Owners of a 1-2 record last summer, Bayside is now 4-1, but needs six wins to keep their season alive
When you've got Moms lugging around big ladders, you know how tough their kids are. That's Caiden Digilio's mom preparing to set up the ladder behind the backstop at Carlson Field Thursday night.SEABROOK - Bayside Area Little Leaguer Eric Armstrong wasn't able to provide the birthday gift that his dad hoped his son would get, so he got him something better.
Bayside, owners of a 1-2 district record last summer, raised their District 14 winning streak to four - all in the loser's bracket - to set up a showdown with Dickinson Little League Saturday night at 7 for the championship. Dickinson, in the title game for the first time since 2017, has the inside track to the crown because Bayside must win Saturday in order to force the IF game on Sunday at 7.
Unfortunately, the victory came with a price. Easton Starr, the team's Mighty Mite found in center field and was the team's RBI leader in a win over NASA Wednesday night, was hit in the elbow area of his right arm during a third-inning at-bat and the lefthander was taken to Methodist Hospital in League City. Easton's brother said the elbow area was badly swollen.
Sorely in need of a new RBI leader, Armstrong and Andrew Jones stepped in to fill the void. The two combined for six of the 13 hits and six RBIs. Bayside was losing 3-2 in the second inning when Armstrong went after the first pitch he saw and ripped a two-out single to left field that scored Jaxon Humphreys, who was hit with a pitch and was wild pitched to second base.
