More than 80 families have got involved with the community project
A Nottinghamshire community has been brought together by art-based workshops giving creative opportunities to ethnic minorities and low-income families. Ahead of the Young Hustlers Festival, today, Sunday, October 22, the Freedom of Arts, a community arts organisation based in St. Ann's, has put on a series of engaging workshops designed for children and families where they have made a ‘difference to their lives’.
Lexie Barker, apart of Socials For Creatives, expressed how important it is to have these available for the young people in the community. She said: “Workshops like these that encourage creativity, self development, and expression enable the local community to come together and to experience not only an activity but also encourages a greater understanding of their local area and wider city and community.
“Thanks to the workshops they can now access Young Hustlers festival which may not have been accessible due to low income and they can actually take part and show pride in their city.” “It is so important to curate these workshops because a lot of the time the families on low income do not have the opportunities to send their kids to art classes and events such as Hockley Hustle,” said Jamie.
The workshops have been a great success among the community, who will attend the Young Hustlers festival today, October 22. The annual festival has a full programme of activities running throughout the day in 12 venues around Sneinton Market and Hockley.
