Councillor Ben Bradley says his council is in a 'reasonable position.'
Nottinghamshire County Council's £60 million deficit has been described as a "ticking timebomb" despite its leadership claiming that it will not lead to any cuts in services. The Conservative-led authority revealed its budget gap earlier this month, with a consultation on spending plans for next year having now been launched.
But in a statement following the meeting, the Leader of the Labour Group on the council, Councillor Kate Foale, said: "The leader's 'wait and see' approach to this budget deficit crisis, especially when he is also an MP who often boasts about 'access to Treasury Ministers', will not reassure the many families across Nottinghamshire who are really struggling to get any support at the moment. This council deficit crisis is a ticking timebomb.
Councillor Jackson said: "We do that at every level from Ben downwards and I think the message is getting through to Government, but obviously there's lots of pressure on national budgets as well... We're uniquely placed with Ben Bradley as our leader that we've got access to ministers, we're making the case for additional funding."
