West Northamptonshire Council says the site will be used to provide high-quality homes.
West Northants Council said it was "committed to retaining the historical and iconic frontage" of the bus station site.The site in St James, Northampton, has been a familiar part of the street streetscape for well over a century.
The thirties also saw the construction of an art deco office building which still bears the legend "Northampton Corporation Transport Offices". West Northamptonshire Council said the depot had been identified as an "area which could significantly benefit from redevelopment".
