Consider it the Padres’ biggest head-scratcher during a season finally old enough to earn a driver’s license. Why is the offense so good on the road and so punchless at home?
On Wednesday, the offense could not overcome four hits and two runs from the Brewers. They could not cash in with starting pitcher Yu Darvish continuing a remarkable run, throwing 6 2/3 innings of three-hit ball and just two walks across 108 pitches. “You look at our overall numbers. I don’t think they’re horrible. Middle of the pack, or maybe a little bit better in the National League. I think offense is down, across the board.
