Paramilitary Crime Task Force investigation lead to arrest
A 41-year old “street-level dealer” arrested as part of a Paramilitary Crime Task Force operation was handed a three-year sentence on Friday for his involvement in supplying cocaine.
Prosecuting barrister David McNeill said that when the phones were examined, there was “extensive evidence” via Facebook and WhatsApp messages indicating Cherry had been concerned in the supply of cocaine over a 17-month period from March 2019 to August 2020. When this bank account was analysed and personal transactions had been made alongside credits from individuals which the Crown say amounted to £32,312.85 and which were the proceeds of Cherry’s “drug dealing activity”.
Telling Judge Irvine it was the Crown’s case that Cherry was a “commercial street-level dealer of cocaine”, Mr McNeill said the defendant had 18 previous convictions including on drugs offence. After imposing the three-year sentence, Judge Irvine told prison staff “he may be taken down” and Cherry was led from the dock and back into custody.
“This remains a priority for the Paramilitary Crime Task Force and we will continue to robustly and proactively pursue those who are intent on damaging our communities.
