The Queen's Medical Centre has £239m worth of outstanding repairs alone
The cost of the repairs backlog for Nottingham's hospitals has risen to nearly £440 million, figures have shown. The Queen's Medical Centre has £239 million worth of outstanding repairs alone, while City Hospital has a bill of £198 million.
It is the third most expensive in the country, only ranking behind Imperial College Healthcare Trust and Guy's and St Thomas' Foundation Trust - both in London. The bill includes £12m of high-risk repair costs, which are those which must be urgently addressed to prevent catastrophic failure or major disruption to clinical services.
Gareth Eales, head of health at Unison's East Midlands branch, said: "Years of government underfunding have left Nottingham's hospitals in a dreadful state. Some of the buildings need so many repairs, they're no longer fit for purpose. Staff shouldn't be expected to work in these poor conditions, nor patients be treated in such a shabby environment.
