The Chicago PD Board voted to fire Officer Sheldon Thrasher after the South Side shooting death of Maurice Granton.
Maurice Granton Jr., 24, died after Thrasher shot him in the back as he climbed a fence on the city's South Side.

His family filed a wrongful death lawsuit in July 2018 after viewing video of the incident. Their lawyers released a statement on the board's decision.
"We are pleased to see Chicago police holding this officer accountable. However given that Maurice Granton died four years ago, we would hope that in future cases of this nature these decisions will be made in a more timely manner," said Antonio M. Romanucci and Andrew M. Stroth, attorneys for Granton's family.
