Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's Texas border delegation made a stop in San Antonio on Thursday.
Much like Chicago, San Antonio city leaders are grappling with the immense financial burden of caring for asylum seekers.
Alderman William Hall, who was on the ground in San Antonio, shared insights into the situation. He pointed out that San Antonio has received tens of millions of dollars in disaster assistance through FEMA, relieving the strain on their municipal budget. He emphasized the importance of Chicago obtaining similar federal funding.
"Right now in San Antonio where I'm at, none of this is impacting their municipal budget. All of this is federal funding that has allowed them to develop operations that fund not for profits, that fund transports, that fund shelter operations. None of it is touching taxpayers," said Ald. Hall. Alderman Hall also raised concerns about the U.S. government's role in Chicago's recent migrant surge, suggesting complicity with Texas Governor Greg Abbott in the matter.that I have read and agree
