Only people living in Scotland claiming certain benefits will receive the annual payment from the middle of December.
Social Security Scotland recently announced that an estimated 400,000 people will start to receive this year’s Winter Heating Payment from the middle of December, with the ‘vast majority’ of eligible households receiving the money by the end of January 2024. The payment of £55.05 will be made automatically to help people with higher energy costs during the colder months.
Social Security Scotland said more than £22 million will be paid out this winter to people on a low income ‘in batches throughout the winter months’. Payments will appear on bank statements as 'WHP' - Winter Heating Payment.It will also ask you about your circumstances from November 6 to 12, 2023 to check if you were eligible during the qualifying week.
