The site's operators say public access may now have to be restricted after the incident, which led to a shutdown of electricity generation
The earthing equipment – running adjacent to live high-voltage cables carrying 33,000 volts at the electricity generation site – was taken from the Greengairs East development, located between the villages of Caldercruix and Greengairs.
All of the 150-metre turbines, capable of generating a combined 36 megawatts of electricity, were immediately shut down as a safety measure and remained out of commission for more than two days. “We will also be conducting a comprehensive review of overall site access to ensure our staff, contactors and members of the public remain safe – depending on the outcome, permanent access restrictions to the site may be instated.”
“We will be prioritising the immediate repair of the site and carrying out a full review of access, which may unfortunately result in permanent closures to the public.” The operators now say that some of the accesses may have to be closed off to prevent further incidents.
