Commercial premises in areas of Newry, Downpatrick and other areas were significantly affected by flooding in the last two weeks

Business es affected by heavy flooding in Northern Ireland after recent heavy rain will be given a one-off £7,500 payment and rates relief to compensate for damage caused to their premises.

Secretary of State for Northern Ireland Chris Heaton-Harris announced £15million in funding would be reallocated from the NI budget to go towards support for the businesses.Details of the financial support were released later on Wednesday by the NI Civil Service, who say the businesses will be eligible for rates relief for the next five months in addition to the one-off payment.

"The measures will be funded through the reallocation of existing NICS Departmental funds that was announced by the Secretary of State, Chris Heaton Harris. "In addition, any business that relocates to temporary premises while their flooded property is being repaired will be eligible for 100% rates relief on the new premises for three months.
