Judge orders Bexar County to add dozens more polling places for election day
A state judge has sided with an activist group in a lawsuit against Bexar County over the number of polling sites on election day.
Later, Callanen told a local TV news program that the county would add eight more, bringing the total to 267, after concerns were raised over whether fewer polling sites would discourage minority voters from casting ballots on Election Day. Bexar County moved to a countywide polling place system in 2019, meaning voters can vote at any polling site no matter where they live, instead of having to vote only in their assigned precinct.
The Texas Civil Rights Project successfully sued in 2020 to keep Bexar County from closing some voting locations that year.
