The Aurora City Council this week amended two proposed tax increment financing districts in preparation for potentially establishing them next month.
Aldermen passed the amendments to the proposed River Vine Tax Increment Finance District and the Cross Street Tax Increment Financing District. The River Vine Tax Increment Financing District is tied to the proposed 187-unit Pacifica Riverview apartment complex between the Fox River and North River Street on the west bank of the Fox River in the city’s downtown.
The other will take the property in the River Vine district, which is called a micro-TIF because it takes in only the property of the proposed project, out of the current TIF District 5 in preparation for passing the new micro-TIF. The subtraction from TIF District 5 passed the council 10-1, with Ald. John Laesch, at large, voting against it.
TIF District 3 was approved in 2000 in anticipation of a large development in the southeast edge of downtown that never took place. The district is scheduled to expire this year. The new micro-TIF on Cross Street would take in two buildings and a vacant lot at River and Cross.
