The specialist high security hospital tests its alarm every Monday morning
A high security hospital has confirmed why its security alarm sounded in the early hours of this morning.

The hospital routinely sounds its siren every Monday at 9am - as it has done for several decades - as part of its statutory duty to ensure safety and security measures are in place. Mersey Care previously told the ECHO the local community is familiar with Ashworth and the alarm test. The site provides treatment for patients who pose a grave danger to themselves or to other people, with many - but not all - transferred from prison. Notable patients at the hospital have included Moors murderer Ian Brady, who died in the hospital in 2017, and Dale Cregan, who murdered four people including two Greater Manchester Police officers.
